About

Started by longtime journalists Charles Kravetz and Steve Safran, Boston MediaNEXT has one goal: to provoke conversation about the future of Boston journalism. We seek great contributors and minds for this virtual think tank. We’re a place for positive suggestions, wild new ideas and innovation, innovation, innovation. At our core are those interested in journalism — but we invite “the people formerly known as the audience” to take part. This is open, transparent and – we believe – important.

Local media is in crisis, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. It’s time to come together and develop real solutions for New England journalism. There are many places to go for national information on new media, but this is the place where we keep it local.

Boston MediaNEXT is more than a blog about news. This is the starting point for discussion. We have a wiki, a Facebook group, a Twitter account and take advantage of the social media tools available to us to build a community. We’ll look for meetups and Tweetups to give us a little F2F time. We want to hear about what works. We’re in this together.

We believe there is a place for professional journalists in new media. We don’t bemoan the changes or wish things would go back to where they were. We are passionate about covering Boston-area news and want to see a new, native model come to the forefront.

We just don’t know what that is, exactly.

But, with you, we’re going to figure it out.

Our goal: nothing short of redefining Boston news.

No membership is required, but we are seeking “Un-Board” Members who want to participate just a little more. Email mail@stevesafran.com if you’re interested in contributing a blog entry every now and then or even if you just want to take the extra step in guiding BMN.
